Christmas vs Thanksgiving

Which festival leaves a mark - Christmas vs Thanksgiving?

People celebrate Christmas as it is the most spectacular festival season and the devout celebrate the occasion to commemorate the sacrifices made by Jesus for the good of mankind. Therefore, Christmas is a time of the year when the world looks to celebrate God's divine plan for salvation through His Son - Jesus. It is a great occasion that reminds humankind that God planned a way for the people to end their pain and sufferings and to wait for His return to help us again through his teachings in the Bible.

Christmas, however, is much more significant than being a religious festival. It helps society to connect with each other and therefore share gifts and come out to contribute to lesser privileged ones through generous charity. It helps people to realize that they are a part of a bigger purpose and hence aid in social growth. This is thus a festival that masks the great idea to contribute to the greater good and help those who are lesser privileged ones to lead a healthy and happy life.

Significance of Christmas

Christmas Day is the birth of Jesus Christ. It is usually celebrated on December 25 of each year. Many people around the world will celebrate it. It is a time for family and friends to come together to celebrate a time of joy and love. People also think that Christmas should be a day of peace around the world.

Christmas each year commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ and people ensure that home is decorated in the best way using the nativity scene along with the right Christmas decoration ideas like - Christmas trees decoration using Christmas ornaments, glittering lights to decorate your house and the tree, and how can we miss the pretty gifts. All these are commonplace throughout the world even in the areas that do not have a significant Christian population. Similarly, the big retailers and neighbourhood stores bring in tinsel and trinkets or lights and the same can be observed in all areas of the city.

The fun traditions associated with Christmas day

One of the most important aspects of Christmas as a festival is that even those people who wish to celebrate Christmas who otherwise do not believe in God nor in Jesus. This is a holiday season that has many people come together to celebrate by visiting Church, exchanging gifts, and spending time with family.

Young children especially love Christmas day because they often get lots of presents or gifts from their parents, friends, and family. Many of them will, on the night before Christmas, will prepare a list or a letter to Santa telling him what gift they wish for on the day.

The children also love the festival as they will also have plenty of home-baked cookies, sweets, and drinks on the table for them to relish.

Santa Claus - The best part of the day

Santa Claus is the highlight for the festival and is shown as wearing a red coat with white-collar, black boots with a white beard. The little kids believe that on Christmas Eve, Santa Claus will surely give them presents and will enter through the chimney on the roof.

Thanksgiving - The prelims to the Christmas festivities

Thanksgiving signifies the beginning of the holiday season and is a holiday that brings families together. It also helps to remind everyone to be thankful for the food on their plates, the comfortable lives they live, and everything else they have. All aspects of Thanksgiving are way better than those of Christmas festivities, making Thanksgiving an alpha way to begin the holiday season.

Thanksgiving was initiated as a kind of peace offering between Native Americans and Pilgrims. The first Thanksgiving signifies the end to war or disagreement that both sides shared. Hence, a lavish party that took place in 1621, became the first Thanksgiving Day. Although the food served on Thanksgiving dinners have changed since the first Thanksgiving dinner of the pilgrims, yet it has never been promoted prominently either by the media platforms or retail branding efforts, unlike Christmas.

On the other hand, Thanksgiving was not declared a national holiday until the year 1863 by then-President Abraham Lincoln.

Which festival is better - Christmas vs Thanksgiving?

It was not till the fourth century that it was resolved that Christmas would memorialize the birth of Lord Jesus. Thanksgiving, though, was first observed in the 17th century and has been about a fraction of the period as Christmas and is yet hardly accepted by a few nations.

Some may argue that in the battle between Christmas vs Thanksgiving - the Christmas holiday season is simply better because it is the extensive holiday season that is celebrated for almost a month, and on another hand, the Thanksgiving holiday is celebrated just for one day.  Many people believe that it is an occasion for families to come together and plan for the big day over a meal.

Christmas offers many family traditions, customs, and ideas for all to celebrate and Thanksgiving is often a simple family affair that celebrates the occasion of being blessed. Thanksgiving is, therefore, a time of coming together as a family, whereas Christmas allows people to celebrate with their family, close friends, and close community as well.

Christmas vs Thanksgiving - The nostalgia factors

When people think of Christmas, they think of Santa Claus, gifts, lights, and over-the-counter Christmas memorabilia. Whereas on Thanksgiving people often recall the fun of a traditional way of sharing a good feast with their closest friends and families.

Some people simply profess that the intervention of media platforms and marketing plans have made Christmas be a big deal rather than just spending time with having a close family to celebrate the big day. The extensive emotional attachments and gifts displayed on the counters are a marketing gimmick to allow you to spend more than you intended for (and still feel good about the same). Therefore, Christmas is one of the highest-grossing festivals in the world.

Thankfully, Thanksgiving has continued to maintain its integrity as a close-knit festival season that brings the image of a close family holiday. It also is a low key and less stressful event than Christmas - to celebrate what everyone is grateful for. Until recently, the community had never given big importance to the festival, but many have begun to associate Black Friday with cartoons associated with this holiday.

Christmas as a major holiday

Christmas is a major holiday that has more preparations than that needed for Thanksgiving. Christmas is superior to Thanksgiving in the marketing mix, as Christmas has several more desirable qualities that Thanksgiving could never completely accomplish. Christmas is more of a fabulous, family celebration while Thanksgiving is a celebration that will just breeze without noticing. The approach of Christmas has been about way extended than Thanksgiving, plus the holiday is commemorated in more areas and followed by more societies around the earth. Many visit the midnight mass at services accompanied by an extravagant Christmas meal on this holiday. Carols plus Santa Claus are an essential component of the celebration too. The Christmas feast is a pleasant banquet that the complete household relishes collectively. The typical Christmas feast involves feasts such as barbecued turkey, roasted fowl, Christmas pudding, eggnog, potatoes, mulled wine, etc.

Thanksgiving usually includes a big family party, which will require a lot of shopping and cooking - for the people whom you really love. On the other hand, Christmas tends to include a lot of preparation - cleaning, decor, cooking, baking, and shopping too, and it has a lot of major tasks like - wrapping gifts and arranging for the best ways to reunite with family and friends and spruce the home for the same.

Christmas, unlike Thanksgiving, has many other social events that people need to prepare for and participate in. Not to mention that it takes the whole month of December to decorate and prepare for Christmas when Thanksgiving usually lasts less than a week, making Thanksgiving a little less stressful little holiday for all.

The final verdict

Christmas has become a popular holiday all over the world. It is one of the most famous holidays in history.  When people think of Christmas, the words that can appear in their head include Santa, candy sticks, fun, or gifts. On the other hand, when you think of Thanksgiving, it evokes the words “turkey" and family dinners. Thanksgiving is all about the people around you, those football games, the food, and the things everyone appreciates and is also celebrated on Thursday which makes the day even more traditional. Thanksgiving is likewise a minority celebration as opposed to Christmas. Certainly, in America, several people observe Thanksgiving, though other nations do not even recognize what Thanksgiving is. Thanksgiving, some might say, is a celebration that is regarding addressing thanks for what you are happy you have. Christmas is the superior festival only since it is based on its reputation and chronicle in time, while on Thanksgiving it is, however, kind to get collectively and consume a roasted turkey (sometimes even a duck) while celebrating Thanksgiving customs.

Thanksgiving is obviously better out of these two big holidays. It is also a holiday that is often overlooked by families and close to the family and is celebrated as a low-key start to the bulk of preparation for the upcoming Christmas festivities.
